The Auction
The Horses On Parade auction, which was cancelled on September 15, was held on Friday, October 5, 2001 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. About 1000 enthusiastic people were on hand when the auctioneers of Harris Wilcox, Inc. banged the gavel a little after 6:30 to begin the sale. Some horses were purchased by their sponsors before the auction so 96 horses were on the block. Three hours later when the last horse was sold the Horses On Parade project had raised almost a million dollars for local non-profit organizations. Top money raisers were A Horse Of A Different Color ( Wolfe Group) - $15,500, Spirit (Chamberlain, et. al.) - $14,000, East and Mane (Fleet) - $11,000 and The Intimidator (Bob Johnson Chevrolet) - $9,000. The prices in the list are unofficial and represent our best efforts to record the prices at the sale. If more up-to-date information is received some prices may change.
