Amer-Equus
Jacquie Germanow
The preliminary concept paintings of Amer-Equus used the time honored colors
and symbology of the American flag. Because so many Rochester businesses
were started and expanded by a rich diversity of immigrant energy (Tel Tru
manufacturing included), this theme seemed to be an appropriate tribute to
the immigrant population and their enormous courage and vitality. The horse
is also a magnificent visual image of this high energy and courage. The
integrating symbol is the heart of the horse, which is on fire. Fire, of
course, symbolizes the passion and courage of the immigrant and the horse.
Fire also reflects temperature which is central to Tel Tru manufacturing's
products: thermometers. The red stripe evolves into fire, and the flying
embers evolve into the stars of the stars and stripes. I decided to merge
these two images into one, hence, the name: Amer-Equus. |
