Lightning

Margery Pearl-Gurnett

Margery Pearl Gurnett, a glass artist of international renown, has created "Lightning" for Horses on Parade. The artist, who has worked professionally in glass for over 20 years, created the horse for her sponsor, Frontier. This work of art was inspired from the companies' campaign for their high speed DSL Service, but as you can see, the beauty of its design is clearly universal.

This mosaic glass horse is covered in 65 square feet of cathedral glass. There are two shades of blue, black and yellow, which have each been cut into tiny pieces and individually "buttered" with adhesive. It is grouted with black grout.

The glass was applied in such a way as to emphasize the musculature and movement of the horse, while paying close attention to the vitality of the material and the design. As the viewer moves around the horse, they see mysterious, glittering, reflections that catch the light in a unique way, which makes the horse appear to dance! This horse could find a good home inside or outside.
